Went round to visit Jane, she told me a story about how the one of the MC’s at the festival – a young woman – introduced her as ‘Mister’, then – recovering – as ‘Missus’ … causing Jane to completely drop the running order of her poems and to begin with her poem called ‘Missus’. Jean Kent who was in the audience and had been sharing a room with Jane spoke to her afterwards and said she was ‘really out there, Jane, you were really out there … powerful and positive’. Asked Jane if I could use that little anecdote in the magazine and – kindly of her – she gave it her consideration, but then said she felt she’d need to ask the young woman’s permission first so perhaps she’d better say no. Fair enough.
