{"id":771,"date":"2022-09-30T02:47:04","date_gmt":"2022-09-30T02:47:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/walleahpress.com.au\/currajah\/?p=771"},"modified":"2022-09-30T03:07:49","modified_gmt":"2022-09-30T03:07:49","slug":"08-oct-2022-therese-corfiatus-book-launch-ulverstone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/walleahpress.com.au\/currajah\/index.php\/2022\/09\/30\/08-oct-2022-therese-corfiatus-book-launch-ulverstone\/","title":{"rendered":"08 Oct 2022\u2014Th\u00e9r\u00e8se Corfiatus, book launch (Ulverstone)"},"content":{"rendered":"<header class=\"entry-header\">\n<h1 class=\"entry-title\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">A new poetry collection, <em><i>Bridge of Words<\/i><\/em>\u2014a collaboration between Th\u00e9r\u00e8se Corfiatis of Ulverstone, and Britta Stenberg of Sweden\u2014will be launched by Fay Forbes at the Red Cross Hall, 49 King Edward Street, Ulverstone, 2-4pm Saturday 8th October, 2022.<\/span><\/h1>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">Th\u00e9r\u00e8se is a featured guest of this month\u2019s Tasmanian Poetry Festival (Launceston 30th Sept \/ 2nd Oct), while Britta\u2014if I\u2019ve interpreted google maps correctly\u2014lives in the isolated town of Rentjarn, a community of some 71 souls in Sweden\u2019s north.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">I\u2019m reminded of a 2006 writing collaboration between Karen Knight and Scottish poet Delys Rose, imagining the similarities of their experiences with those of Th\u00e9r\u00e8se and Britta. Karen\u2014from her home in Hobart, and Delys, comfortably ensconced in Scotland\u2014were writing a poem a month. \u2018Neither of us was particularly keen on formal stipulations and have found that the more open the remit, the better the results,\u2019 wrote Delys at the time. \u2018We began very simply with a poem about midsummer\/midwinter because it was happening, at the moment we committed ourselves. It\u2019s been a great way to keep up a long distance correspondence, not to mention generating new work.\u2019<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">A key difference is that Karen and Delys had already met in Australia; and some time later, Karen travelled to visit Delys in Scotland.&nbsp; Britta and Th\u00e9r\u00e8se have <\/span><em style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\"><i>never<\/i><\/em><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">&nbsp;met, though perhaps that will change. In one of the pair\u2019s many online conversations (as reported by the ABC&nbsp;<\/span><a style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2022-09-17\/poets-publish-book-bridging-tasmania-and-sweden\/101443936\">here<\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">), Britta suggests that it\u2019s been exciting to get to know Tasmania and Therese. \u201cBye-bye from Sweden, come and see me some day.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p align=\"left\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<div style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\"><em>Two women. Two poets. Two countries. One man. The\u0301re\u0300se Corfiatis lives in Ulverstone, Tasmania; Britta Stenberg lives in Rentja\u0308rn, Sweden \u2013 two women joined in friendship by Tom Langston, who introduced them to each other long distance, during a trip to Sweden. This collaboration is a tribute to his memory.<\/em><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\"><em>This evocative collection written over the course of a year, from opposite ends of the earth, holds a fervent hope for readers to discover a moment caught in time.<\/em><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\"><em>Britta Stenberg is a published writer from Swedish Lapland with a number of novels and poetry to her name. She also writes for the stage.
