{"id":3440,"date":"2026-03-11T23:01:00","date_gmt":"2026-03-11T23:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/walleahpress.com.au\/currajah\/?p=3440"},"modified":"2026-03-11T23:03:06","modified_gmt":"2026-03-11T23:03:06","slug":"womens-team-walks-off-in-protest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/walleahpress.com.au\/currajah\/index.php\/2026\/03\/11\/womens-team-walks-off-in-protest\/","title":{"rendered":"Women&#8217;s team walks off in protest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The North Korean women\u2019s soccer team marched off the field in protest in Sydney last night over a goal allowed to the Chinese women\u2019s team in a 2026 Women\u2019s Asian Cup match.<\/p>\n<p>Not the best example of good sportmanship, but worth mentioning are ex-player Australian Kate Gill\u2019s observations as reported in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/sport\/2026\/mar\/11\/north-korea-protest-matildas-australia-womens-asian-cup\">The Guardian<\/a>\u2026.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt got me thinking about the bigger picture of it all and how lucky we are to live in a country where we have autonomy over the decisions we make,\u201d she says. \u201cBut for a country that\u2019s so shut off from the world and not exposed to good sporting standards or expectations, they\u2019re probably acting how they\u2019ve been told to.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I was looking back at it, the directions always came from the support staff and head coach who coordinated the players to walk off the pitch or retaliate. I would hate to be the player on the North Korea team who thought that kind of thing wasn\u2019t right, and they didn\u2019t want to act in those ways.
