Dear Friends of Seasonal Poets,<\/p>\n
Next Monday, 21st of February, should have been our first reading for 2022 at Hadley’s Hotel. Given the current restrictions for masks and social distancing, we have reluctantly decided to cancel the reading. We are looking forward to our May Autumn reading and hope you are as well.<\/p>\n
We would like to leave you with the poem ‘Window’ by Tim Thorne who died in September.<\/p>\n
Window
\nWhat is the mind that would invent the lock?
\nWhat are the pathways of the brain
\nthat must be followed with no ball of string
\nto arrive at a device
\nwhich excludes? Why would you start?<\/p>\n
If this slab of the earth
\nwas where you had always been,
\nthere would be no entry point,
\nno threshold of distrust, only the base
\nab origine home and whole.<\/p>\n
Cook and Banks cased the place, reported back.
\n(This mob didn’t do disorganised crime.)
\n‘It is a place of curios if it is, at all,
\na place.’ The Enlightenment understood
\nlocus in its richest meaning.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile need, greed and curiosity
\n(those drivers of all crime)
\nwere building against a coastline
\nthat bound like straps. Something
\n(by Hegel!) had to give. Someone<\/p>\n
had to go. The blue chasm had to
\nbe bridged, the stormy lanes traversed,
\nthe metaphors of danger maelstrom-mixed.
\nEasier than wriggling through a window
\nas it turned out, the landing was made.<\/p>\n
