Al Filreis gathered together Jerome Rothenberg, Charles Bernstein, and Pierre Joris to talk about two poems by Armand Schwerner. The first was written near the end of Schwerner\u2019s life, for his major series titled\u00a0The Tablets<\/em>. The poem discussed here is \u201cTablet XXV\u201d [TEXT<\/a>;\u00a0AUDIO<\/a>] and, along with all the other sections, it can be found in\u00a0the complete edition<\/a>\u00a0published by the National Poetry Foundation in 1999. The second poem is an earlier one, \u201c\u2018daddy, can you staple these two stars together to make an airplane?\u2019\u201d [TEXT<\/a>;\u00a0AUDIO<\/a>] originally published in\u00a0Seaweed<\/em>\u00a0and available on page 50 of\u00a0Selected Shorter Poems<\/em><\/a>\u00a0(Junction Press, 1999). Our recordings of these poems come from PennSound\u2019s Armand Schwerner\u00a0author page<\/a>. \u201cTablet XXV\u201d was recorded by the National Poetry Foundation in the mid-1990s. Our recording of \u201c\u2018daddy, can you staple \u2026\u2019\u201d was made by\u00a0Paul Blackburn<\/a>\u00a0during Schwerner\u2019s public reading at the Poetry Project, at St. Mark\u2019s Church, in New York, on January 18, 1967, and is made available through the remarkable Blackburn collection housed at the University of California at San Diego.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
