Oil on canvas
Please do not touch
Rectangle colour
boundaries unbounded
by a modern age.
Violet void
dark passage
to new world of sun.
I inject
my new world reading
onto your canvas
and wonder why
I spoil simplicity
with learned complexities,
why I cannot accept
colour, shape,
as sufficient in themselves.
I look for meaning,
find your rose hued borders
are not complete
but fade to rough-brushed edges
at the base,
that save us
from structure
from finality.
Perhaps a space
through which we enter
and become
sublime
serene
sublimated
by the simplicity
of yellow.
Note: based on a painting by Mark Rothko.
