ADRIAN FLAVELL

on drowning a rat

the rat

its back already broken
like too many ceasefires / promises / dreams

is dropped into a bucket

you could have died
with a last meal of choice
but instead you drink
til your lungs burst

like bubbles / balloons
and the skulls of children

too slow to escape the hammer
