Famous Reporter # 10
November 1994

       ANNE KELLAS

       Arriving by Elephant

        The short, peaceful poem
        lands
slap on the back of an elephant
        rides slowly in parade, waves.
        You remember it, salute.

Where it dismounts, or how, doesn't really matter.
        I'm the elephant's boy,
        or girl.
        Or not.

        The successful poet
        arrived by jet.
        saddled five horses up
and rode all night through the stars.

I think he was disappointed with the applause.
